BUT THER ARE NONE ON SILVERDALE FARM ARE THERE!

The British High Commissioner to Tanzania, Diane Louise Corner, has suggested the need for Tanzania to improve business climate in an effort to attract foreign investors.

Speaking in an interview with few media outlets ahead her two-day visit in Arusha region, Corner said that Tanzania is one of the best investment destinations in Africa.

She explained that foreign investments play imperative role to the country’s economic growth, taking into account that private sector employs millions of people.

“We have been trying to discuss with Tanzanian government to address some of the business hitches for smooth business operations in the country,” she said, adding: “Our interests is to see private sector perform better.”

She however revealed that Tanzania is among African countries where UK government invests more time and resources.

According to Corner, UK investments in Tanzania have been increasing in recent years, citing peace and security as among the key factors which attract many UK companies and trading institutions.

The envoy further expressed her satisfaction over the positive bilateral relations between the two countries, and that it would like to continue strengthening them.

“The UK government enjoys its relationship with Tanzania and there is not a single African country where we invest much of our time and resources. This is the best country for business and economic relationship,” she said.

“As development partners, Britain has historically been Tanzania’s largest donor, and our aid programme is now the largest it has ever been. In the commercial sphere, we remain the biggest investor, with British investors in all areas of the Tanzanian economy, large and small.

The British Business Group now boasts over 150 members across the country.

Being a former British colony and one of the Africa’s biggest per capita aid recipients, Tanzania received USD453million of aid for its 2011/12 budget, with Britain the largest provider of general budget support.

During her two-day official visit, the UK High Commissioner visited Nelson Mandela Institute of Science and Technology, East African Business Council, Coffee farm, A-to-Z Textile mill, some of the Arusha-based UK companies and she also attended the annual meeting of British Business Group.
