The Chairperson of the UNA-Tanzania Basil Lema has challenged the Tanzanian government's commitment to fighting corruption stating “Setting up an anti-graft unit is a milestone but it does not make sense to have such bureau which lacks teeth to bite grand corruption culprits........there are serious problems in the enforcement of the anti-corruption legislation, as the Prevention of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) is just there as a figure head with no powers to touch and prosecute big shots involved in grand corruption....they are not willing, or committed to ensure the vice comes to an end.”
The remarks certainly tie in with the recent Wikileakes revelations of alleged statements made by the head of the PCCB Mr. Hosea who is stated to have remarked that there are certain 'untouchables' in Tanzania beyond the tentacles of the rule of law!
Time has a habit of revealing the truth!
This is the story of British investors Stewart Middleton and Sarah Hermitage driven from Tanzania by violence, abuse and intimidation instigated by Benjamin Mengi which included a vicious defamation campaign by IPP Media a powerful media house owned by his brother Reginald Mengi. Reginald Mengi sued Sarah Hermitage for Libel in London in 2010 for posts in this Blog. On 30th November 2012 the High Court ruled that Reginald Mengi was complicit in his brother’s corruption and intimidation.
