President Kikwete’s second term of office kicked off amidst allegations of electoral corruption and of his failure to deal effectively with Grand corruption in his preceeding term. Despite these allegations and the obvious concerns they raise, Tanzania remains a country in receipt of copious amounts of foreign aid with the UK being Tanzanian’s largest bi-lateral donor. Since 2000 the UK has provided £596 million in aid to Tanzania donating £140 million in 2009/2010 alone. In times of austerity and cuts to the UK’s Education budget prompting riots on the streets of London by angry students, how can this support be justified when it is abusing British citizens?
This is the story of British investors Stewart Middleton and Sarah Hermitage driven from Tanzania by violence, abuse and intimidation instigated by Benjamin Mengi which included a vicious defamation campaign by IPP Media a powerful media house owned by his brother Reginald Mengi. Reginald Mengi sued Sarah Hermitage for Libel in London in 2010 for posts in this Blog. On 30th November 2012 the High Court ruled that Reginald Mengi was complicit in his brother’s corruption and intimidation.
